1. Henderson Has Been Around Awhile
While you might think everything in our area is relatively new, Henderson has been incorporated since 1953. Prior to incorporation, Henderson has its roots in World War II when the area served as the main source of magnesium, which was used as a strengthening agent for aluminum. The town even boasted its own codename during the war, Plancor 201H and had its own version of Rosie the Riveter, Magnesium Maggie.
2. Henderson Is 2nd In Population
While Las Vegas obviously is the largest city in Nevada, Henderson is number two with more than 300,000 residents. Reno and North Las Vegas aren’t far behind, but our population definitely has experienced some significant growth since the 1950s, when fewer than 8,000 people called Henderson home.
3. Harry Reid Was A Local Boy
Although, he was born in Searchlight, future Senator Harry Reid attended Basic High School (now Basic Academy of International Studies) and even played on the school’s football team. He went on to serve as one of Nevada’s senators for 30 years, until retiring in 2017.
4. Explore Some Local History
At the Clark County Museum, which is located in Henderson, you can check out several historic Nevada buildings, including a few historic homes, a print shop and a wedding chapel that once rested on the Las Vegas Strip. Bette Midler, Michael Caine and Whoopi Goldberg are among the celebrities that were married at this famed wedding venue.
5. Henderson Is An Award Winner
Henderson has won a host of awards and accolades over the years. In 2019, it was named as the Greenest City in Nevada due to its air quality, renewable energy programs and large amount of open space. Henderson also was selected as one of the 50 Best Places to Live in America by Money Magazine, and these are just two of its major awards. As longtime Henderson movers, we agree that Henderson is a well-planned city with plenty of amenities and services.
6. Love The Outdoors? Come To Henderson
Henderson boasts nearly 70 parks and more than 180 linear miles of walking and biking trails. There are a dozen golf courses, and all but three are public courses. If you love to swim, there are 11 aquatic facilities, and for tennis enthusiasts, there are 53 tennis courts in Henderson.
